Legal Entity Identifiers in the Canadian public record.

The LEI is a global identifier used in financial markets. entities.ca keeps it beside Canadian registry, licence and public-money evidence under one permanent CEID—then uses GLEIF Level 2 identifiers to map organisation relationships without guessing from names.

Why the key matters

One global identifier, attached to a Canadian evidence graph.

An LEI is not the entities.ca identity and does not replace a corporation, charity or municipal licence number. It is one authoritative identifier on the canonical record. Where GLEIF reports the Corporations Canada registration authority, the federal number is joined exactly rather than through a company name.

That exact spine is commercially useful for counterparty mastering, vendor normalization, portfolio monitoring and cross-border data joins because the source key can change while the CEID remains permanent.

What this does not prove

An issued LEI does not prove that every corporate registration, licence or operating location is current. A lapsed LEI is a maintenance state in the Global LEI System, not evidence that the company dissolved.

12,629 exact organisation relationships.

Each edge starts at an LEI already resolved to a published Canadian record. 10,133 also point to another LEI in this Canadian entity set; foreign targets retain their global LEI and source link. The feed is captured and validated for the next graph generation.

Parent means accounting consolidation here. GLEIF Level 2 direct and ultimate parent records are not a complete beneficial-ownership register. Reporting exceptions and missing relationships must be preserved as uncertainty; absence cannot be turned into “no parent.”
Method and use

Reproducible counts

The report scans the current published Gold records for LEIs, exact federal identifiers, other publishers and public-money intersections. Relationship counts scan the official GLEIF RR 2.1 Golden Copy and retain only rows whose subject LEI maps to a published Canadian CEID.

Built for systems, not a one-off chart

The same identifiers and typed edges can power entity resolution, portfolio monitoring, corporate-family navigation and versioned enterprise snapshots. See the data products or compare organisations in the analyst workspace.

  • An LEI identifies a legal entity in the Global LEI System; it is not evidence that the entity is active in every other registry.
  • GLEIF direct and ultimate parent relationships describe accounting consolidation, not every form of legal or beneficial ownership.
  • Counts describe the entities.ca capture and resolution result, not the complete Canadian business population.
  • A missing relationship may reflect a GLEIF reporting exception or unavailable data and does not prove that no parent exists.
