Entity intelligence
The source files are public. The durable asset is what sits between them: permanent identifiers, explainable resolution, historical comparisons and measures that can be reproduced from the evidence.
How much evidence supports this record?
Every organisation record receives a score from 0 to 100. It measures the depth of the record assembled by entities.ca, not the worth, quality, reputation, solvency or risk of the organisation.
The formula uses fixed thresholds. A company does not lose points because another company entered the database, and a million repetitive transactions cannot overwhelm one authoritative registration. Every score can be rebuilt from the exported fields.
Basic, Documented, Layered and Deep describe evidence coverage. They are labels for the record, never badges awarded to the organisation.
| Component | Maximum | Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Independent publishers | 20 | Five points per distinct public-sector publisher, capped at four. |
| Identity evidence | 20 | Identifier schemes and registration records, with a fixed cap. |
| Evidence breadth | 30 | Five points per evidence family, capped at six families. |
| Dated span | 15 | Fixed bands from one dated fact through ten or more years. |
| Traceability | 15 | Source citations, multiple source files and stored linkage explanations. |
Identity and evidence
- Permanent CEIDs independent of any source registry.
- Identifier and name history tied to immutable source captures.
- Every automatic join carries the reason it was made.
- Ambiguous candidates remain unresolved instead of being forced together.
Change and relationships
- Capture-to-capture changes with gaps recorded as gaps.
- Filed board overlap and exact-LEI organisation relationships.
- Same-address clusters with service-office safeguards.
- Cross-source timelines for registration, licensing, money and activity.
Current is a calculation
Freshness records the elapsed time since the latest successful capture and divides it by that source’s declared cadence. Failures, overdue captures and unusual row-count moves remain separate states instead of disappearing inside one reassuring score.
Missed windows remain missing
Continuity measures how many expected cadence windows contain a successful capture. Two captures in one window still count once. A later snapshot can restore the current view, but it never fills an earlier unobserved gap.
Both methods describe the entities.ca archive rather than the quality of a publisher or organisation. The live source-health table exposes the observed and expected window counts behind every percentage.
A global key on the Canadian evidence graph
The series counts published CEIDs carrying a Legal Entity Identifier, exact federal-registry links, corroboration by another publisher and intersections with disclosed public money. The output is reproducible from the current Gold records rather than maintained as editorial copy.
Relationships require identifiers
Level 2 edges enter only when the subject LEI resolves exactly. A target is linked to another CEID only through its LEI. Parent, fund-manager, subfund, feeder and branch types stay separate, with publisher status and validation.
Read the current Canadian global-identity report. Accounting consolidation is not relabelled as beneficial ownership, and a missing relationship is never converted into proof of absence.
Eight dimensions, no magic total
Public Footprint describes where an organisation appears across the graph. Each dimension runs from 0 to 100 using fixed logarithmic caps, so the difference between one and ten records matters more than the difference between 10,001 and 10,010.
The dimensions are never summed. A company with many permits, a charity with a detailed return and an organisation with one decided finding have different records, not different positions on one invented ladder.
Zero means this corpus has no evidence in that dimension. It does not prove the organisation has no activity of that kind outside the covered sources.
| Dimension | What enters it | National average |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Independent publishers, identifier schemes, registrations and explained joins. | 44.0 |
| Operations | Municipal licences and distinct operating places. | 5.3 |
| Filed disclosure | Public financial returns and self-reported workforce figures. | 4.6 |
| Public money | Disclosed contract, grant and contribution records. | 1.2 |
| Public activity | Permits, declared project value and dwelling units. | 0.0 |
| Relationships | Filed board records and exact identifier-linked organisation relationships. | 2.3 |
| Regulatory | Decided public findings; never allegations or reviews. | 0.0 |
| History | Dated event count and the span between first and latest evidence. | 21.6 |
For people and teams
Entity watchlists, change alerts, evidence packets, comparisons and saved searches turn occasional lookup into ongoing monitoring.
For data systems
Entity resolution, identifier lookup, changes feeds, relationship lookup and versioned bulk snapshots form a natural API and enterprise data licence.
These products will expose source, date, confidence and method with every result. A result without its evidence is not an entities.ca result.
